The Benefits of Meal Prepping: Let Me Count the Ways

Healthy Solutions
Benefits of Meal Prepping

The benefits of meal prepping…let me count the ways! When I first started meal prepping it was a situation where I’d become fed up with my then current nutrition. Yes, I love food, but I had to realize that it was possible for me to clean up my eating habits, still, indulge and be able to be healthy enough to live and take care of my husband and children. The best part was that I could do all of that and not have to give up my love for food.

People always say that hindsight is 20/20 and I can honestly say that if I knew then what I know now concerning all of the benefits of meal prepping I would have started a long time ago. I wish that meal prepping had been introduced to me a long time ago. All I can say is that I am never going back to the life before prepping began!

I am sure that different people prep for various reasons. I am also certain that if you were to survey a group of people a lot of them will have different benefits that they’ve taken with them from meal prepping. Listed below and a few of my favorite benefits of meal prepping.

SAVES TIME

I’m not sure about you but after a long day of work, having to come home to wife and mommy duties, a lot of times I don’t feel like cooking. But having already meal prepped helps to save time because I don’t have to worry about what I’m going to feed my family because the meals have already prepared. All that’s left for me to do is to pop the meals in the microwave and voila! Making time to prep also frees up the time that I would have spent standing in the kitchen cooking for me to be able to spend quality time with my family after a long and stressful day.

SAVES MONEY

By going to the grocery store and picking up the necessities for your meal prep, this can save you tons of money in the long run. Think about it. If you don’t grocery shop so that you can meal prep, you’ll end up in one or two situations. The first being that you’ll be in the grocery store every day and not only will you be wasting money on gas, running to and from the store, but how many of us go to the grocery store and come out with only the things we’d intended on purchasing? Exactly! Nine times out of ten we spend more and pick up things that we initially had no intention of ever even purchasing.

The second thing is if we don’t grocery shop to meal prep, are not wasting time in gas and money by stopping to the grocery store every day, we’re spending additional money in having to stop to a restaurant or fast food joint to pick up food.

Let’s face it we have to eat, and if we haven’t prepared anything, we have to buy something. Just imagine spending money to eat every single day; breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Let’s not forget about those of us with husbands and kids. Then we’re talking about, at the bare minimum, three meals a day times, however, many people are in your household. If you were to sit down and calculate the amount of money spent in your home for food, on a monthly basis, I could almost guarantee that if you haven’t started meal prepping you’ll start!

HEALTHIER CHOICES

Meal prepping affords you with healthier opportunities. It makes you more conscious of the foods that you’re putting into your body. For example, if you meal prep that means that you’ve mapped out what you’re going to eat, right? Think about meal prepping gives you a chance to plan. If you plan, purchase and prepare healthier alternatives, then statistics show that you are more likely to eat the healthy stuff that you’ve cooked as opposed to the unhealthy things you would have grabbed in a hurry to put food in your body at a drive-thru. If it’s already cooked and you have it on hand, there is nothing to think about when lunch time rolls around. It’s better to have that baked chicken you prepared at home versus that chicken sandwich that you would probably grab from McDonald’s.

Not only is meal prepping better on your pockets it does wonders for your health.
