1. Eggs are harmful to the heart

Eggs are enriched with cholesterol which is why several individuals think that they should not be consumed. Their reasoning is that high cholesterol can increase the hazard of cardiovascular diseases. Throughout time, different researches have been conducted on eggs which have disapproved this myth. One of the more famous Framingham heart studies revealed that high blood cholesterol causes heart attacks, but the same study did not find any relationship between heart disease and eating eggs.

25% of the cholesterol found in blood is caused by foods; whereas the other 75% is produced by the liver whenever you eat foods that have saturated fat (i.e., doughnuts, cheese burgers, etc.).

2. Low-fat and fat-free foods are healthier

It is another popular myth of eating healthy. No doubt, it is often recommended to have low-fat or fat-free foods and dairy products, but that advice is not applicable to all kinds of foods.

The salad dressings prepared with monounsaturated fats (healthy ones), like canola or olive oil, are helpful in preventing cardiovascular diseases. But recent research studies have found that going oil-free can cause certain health-related issues. For example, the digestive tract will not absorb every nutrient of the salad if it is fat-free. Talk about a WOW factor!

3. Coffee causes cancer

For several years, people have believed that coffee causes cancer. In the 1970s, some research studies concluded that cysts in the breast tissue were being caused by caffeine. Later in 1981, a study by Harvard University discovered that pancreatic cancer is more common among the coffee drinkers. However, studies that were later conducted to examine the risk of cancer amongst coffee consumers found no association between coffee and cancer. In fact, some of the researchers revealed that caffeine actually decreases the hazards of colon cancer.

4. Canned and frozen products are less nutritious

Undoubtedly, fresh vegetables and fruits are much healthier than canned and frozen produce. But, that’s only true for those vegetables and fruits which are consumed immediately after picking up from the fields. The foods available in the local stores are not as fresh because they have lost several nutrients during their storage and shipping. On the other hand, food processors quickly freeze the fresh produce for preserving much of their mineral and vitamin content.

Also, contrary to most beliefs, canning doesn’t reduce the nutrient content of vegetables and fruits. Researchers have found that canned pumpkin and spinach contain higher quantities of vitamin A as compared to fresh variety.

Healthy eating is not tough. However, it requires much dedication and planning on your part. So, do not let these myths come in the way of your healthy lifestyle!

Best of Luck!
